SEVEN APOCRYPHA

7 APOCRYPHA

an attempt to avoid a self-portrait

Secret, obscure, hidden

The term Apocrypha was used for works, unusually written, of doubtful origin. This was the name of unfinished gospels of unknown authorship. So they were out of the law.

7 APOCRYPHA – Svyatoslav Lunyov’s cycle for organ – is a move beyond authorship. It is an attempt to avoid a self-portrait. In fact, the whole cycle is 6 variations on the Bach-mardong (from Lunyov’s piano cycle MARDONGS).

APOCRYPHA by Svyatoslav Lunyov is an attempt to look in someone else’s mirror. And not to see one’s reflection.

First performance: Maxym Sydorenko – organ (2001)

Duration: 18′
